Teaser Tuesdays

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

A Dirty Job: A Novel by Christopher Moore

Charlie had Sophie strapped to his chest like a terrorist baby bomb when he came down the back steps. She had just gotten to the point where she could hold up her head, so he had strapped her in face-out so she could look around. The way her arms and legs waved around as Charlie walked, she looked as if she was skydiving and using a skinny nerd as a parachute.

Musing MondayDo you listen to music while reading? Does this change if you’re reading in or out of your house? Do you have a preference of music for such occasions?

I really do not have a problem reading while listening to music. Sometimes it actually helps me to focus more on whatever I am doing, and that includes reading.

When I am reading in a public environment where there is more noise, I actually prefer to listen to music while reading because it drowneds out all the other noise.

I really don’t have any preference as to what music is on while I am reading, other than the fact it obviously has to be something I enjoy. I do find, however, that the more familiar the music, the easier it is for me to read while listing to it. If, say, I purchase a new CD and try to read while listening to it, I will easily get destracted from the book while I try to listen to the new music.

Today I would like to present to you a little something special in the form of a guest post. Enjoy

I grew up an inner city youth in the 3rd worst “hood” in New Jersey. So if you will, allow me to use a more suitable vernacular:

Yo Kanyeezie, Let me Holla at you a minute son. You fell off, my dude. You aint sh*t. Yeah, yeah your beats are hot, but your flow is weak and your metaphors are whack. You hadn’ta started wil’in out and acting the fool, maybe people woulda slept on how poor your sh*t is, but you had ta go act like you done lost ya got dam mind and now your cards been pulled. Pladow, you’re over son.

Now if I may translate:

Kanye, What the F*ck?!

Allow me to expand: WHAT. THE. FUCK??? Who the hell do you think you are? You are not the be-all, end-all; nowhere near it. You’re production skills are somewhat impressive but you’re really not that talented in front of a mic and I’ve met bags of hair more intelligent than you are. I’m sorry, but it’s true. You got lucky that when you debuted there was no one out there, so you came across as some great rapper. You’re what happens when there’s a hole in Hip Hop. And now you’re the a-hole in Hip Hop. The only one doing it was Jay-Z and you sir, are no Jay-Z. You were basically the equivalent of the fastest runner at the Special Olympics. And the thing of it is, no one would have noticed that you suck ass had you just kept your stupid mouth shut. Your fifteen minutes is officially up and p.s. we all voted and we’ve decided to wire your mouth shut again.

Douchebag.

Musing MondayDo you find yourself forming trends in your reading? Is this a conscious act, influenced by either your own interests or current publishing fads?

I am ALWAYS trending in some way. Most of the time I will start out reading a book in one genre or of one type and then the next few books will be of the same genre/type. After a few books I will start to get burned out and want to read a different type of book, so I will pick a different genre/type and read a few books of that type. One big trending circle.
